Clearer Option for JB?

I have an 83 LP custom and for a few years I've had a Seymour JB in the bridge. I play through a Marshall '78 2203. I wanted to get a more open sound so I recently got a Gibson 490T (abasically a 57 classic with an A5 instead of the A2). I love the sound of it for chord work and and it's got the extra clarity from having a lower output that's hitting the spot but for single note leads it seams thin and loses it's oompf. Is there another p/u Duncan makes in a similar output range (to the 490T) that may be thicker/warmer on single note leads withut getting muddy on the chord work. I've tried the 59 before and didn't care for them.

Re: Clearer Option for JB?

The CC is a pickup that is more focused on lower mids and a creamier top end.
The C-5 is sorta in between a 59 and JB, although I'm not sure you'll like it because it's higher notes seem more open and thin than a JB. However, if you're looking for a more open JB, the C-5 fits the bill. It's got a tighter and bigger low end, and really sounds great with LP's and Marshalls.

You may have to do your own evaluation between the Custom, C-5, and CC, and decide on one of those 3. They're like more toneful versions of the Gibson pickups, and the output is about the same.

I'm with Gearjoneser, any of the Custom family will do the trick. In fact, before even seeing his post the first one that came to my mind was the Custom. It's killer in a Les Paul. Actually, all three Customs are. I'm particularly fond of the Custom Custom myself. It's sweet sounding and than go from mellow to rude in the roll of the volume knob.

'nother vote for the CC here. VERY versatile, responds well to tone, col & split controls
