Thanks, Jeff! Yup, the JTM45 is just about my ultimate amp sound. No one usuall equates Marshall and clean, but these sound fantastic clean. Probably because they're the closest to the Bassman circuit, being one of Marshall's first designs. The amps moved farther away from this basis as they evolved.
But...I'm not very evolved, so this suits me just fine

Years ago..when the reissue first came out...a buddy of mine bought one...the head and 4x12....he retubed it...no idea with what....but I spent alot of time on that amp...it sounds great no matter where the vol is set, IMO. I liked it better than the 59 Bassman my brother had...(which was a freakin fantastic amp!)..the Marshall "edge"...

Oh, I should mention, I had the amp's output throttled way back with a Weber MASS (didn't want to drive the wife out of the house while I recorded). It sounds even sweeter when you let it pound the speakers!

I kinda know the area, I am sure I have been lost late at night on University at some point!! Are you playing in a band right now?

Switchable Gain boost I put on my Edana. Fairly simple. Just gotta figure out where to put the switch. You coudl get a push/pull 1MAudio pot and put it on one of the volume controls. I mount mine on the back as I find that a good Switchcraft is better than any push/pull pot I've encountered for long term reliability.

And love the playing too, and old clean Marshalls is by far my fave sound ever

I'm using a set of Valve Arts KT66s in it right now. It came with extra tubes, so I've got a set of Russion and Groove Tube KT66s as well. I love the 66s, don't even want to try any other tube style in there.
For pres I have a set of EH12AX7s. It came with a set of JJ ECC83s and it sounded ok, but a bit raspier. The EHs smoothed it right out, I love 'em!

I just hooked up with a bass player out in Coon Rapids. We're gonna get a jam band together and go out and hit the local blues jams as a "band".

Where at? How many tunes do you typically get to do? I think that would be a blast!! Do you use stage gear?

I think we're targeting the one at Whisky Juntion first. Hopefully just after New Years, the bass player is out of town for about four weeks now on business.
He sat in there a couple weeks ago and had a blast. He got to play three songs. You use the stage gear, just bring your own guitar/bass. We figure that even if we don't find a drummer, the host band drummer will fill in. Should be a blast.
For anyone wondering what the Washburn HB32 looks like (I know you're all dieing to know), here 'tis. It's slated for a set DiMarzio V-PAFs. You can just see the Ceriatone poking out in the lower corner. Can't wait to get the cab for it!

It's got pretty good headroom depending on what type of guitar you're using. On my Fenders, I can crank the thing to about 7 and it stays pretty clean, a small turn of the guitar's volume down and any OD cleans right up. Humbuckers or P90s make it grind around 5, but again clean up well with the guitar's volume.
