Cna someone tell me about Poplar wood?

I`ve been looking at a MIM Tele that I`m pretty sure is made of Poplar. How does Poplar compare to Alder or Basswood. What are some good pickup choices for getting a nice warm crunch tone in a Poplar bodied guitar. Single coils,Stacked Single coils,Hums anything you think that would work in the bridge. I`ve read in an old post that Alnico 2 magnets work good in Poplar?

Poplar wood is closer to Alder in tone and weight. It normally has
green streaks in it. It's not really good for translucent finishes. It has
very little grain and a green Hue to it. It's fine for a Opaque finish.

if ur mim tele was built after the year 2000, it could well possibly be alder.
at least that's how the mim standard strats are.

but ur mim tele is not a standard, but a reissue, then i have no clue..

I have a poplar bodied superstrat. It sounds very nice to me, no complains at all.

I have a JB in the bridge and Classic Stacks in the other positions. I think that the JB is definitely staying, it's been there for years, but I'm not yet sure about the singles. Maybe I'm just not a single guy.

JB sounds very good for anything, but the upper mid spike is evident. That is a part of it's sound, what makes it good.

The Classic Stacks sound very nice clean, and they don't hum. I'd personally go for a bit more output and bite. I still have to adjust them more and do more experiments to be able to give in the final review about them.


Overall, I think that poplar is very nice as guitar wood. I think it's quite versatile, like alder.
