What is the difference between splitting the to the inside coils vs the outside coils? I'd like to split coils on Washburn. I am currently running a PG in the bridge & a 59 in the neck.
The difference would be a sharper tone using the screw coils instead of the slug coils the bass would be deeper but not as thick. But its not a huge difference either its farily easy to try if your already wired for splits its just swapping a couple wires no reason not to try it you might like it
as a side note thats not really coil tapping. Coil tapping is done to single coil pickups its like a lead taken off the pickup partway through the wind.
Inside coil on the bridge is beefier because the freq's over that part of the pickup are lower. Opposite on the neck pu for the same reason but the difference isn't as pronounced.
Or, my favorite, inside coil of the bridge, (slug), with outside coil of the neck, (screw). That maintains the humbucking operation and gives you a nice "Stratty" sound if you go parallel and a virtual 3rd humbucker if you go series.
