Here's my Warmoth SG project that I am looking to prep for paint soon. Trouble is, I can't decide on a paint scheme! I only wish I could do them both. Anyway...

1) Fender Coppertone Metallic - Coverage over entire instrument. All hardware in chrome (already have). I absolutly love coppertone metallic with a tortoise pickguard, which I would likely use with this color scheme. This is the easiest of the two options, although, definatly not as striking of a paint scheme. With the maple neck, this would replicate the classic Fender color scheme.

2) Heritage Cherry & Gold Top Gold - Idea is to spray a base of Heritage Cherry, then mask off some flames and spray the flames in Gold Top Gold. Then, I would want to separate the colors with white pinstriping. I think this combo could look absolutly amazing, but would require a lot of work. First, I've never done pinstriping, so I have absolutly no confidence when it comes to doing it right. Second, the build up of primer and gold over the red would make getting a smooth laquer clear coat very challenging. Again, a classic color combo, but with a twist.

Below is a pick of the body and neck. The neck is Pau Ferro on Maple with bound fret board and block inlays. It's already finished, so keep in mind how the neck will look with the finished body.

Hmmmm
another idea is candy apple :)
you could do a gold base for the candy apple and then paint the candy color on top either red or orange, then what you do is "mask" off what you want to remain gold with tape and after you spray the candy color, you remove the tape and it leaves the gold behind...
i have painted cars and airplanes like this kinda cool

ghost flames are also neat, this is when you use one color red then get a color that is the same but slightly ligher or darker for the flames...

just some thoughts, i would love to see it finished!

Re: Color scheme for the Warmoth SG

I love the gold flames idea. That neck is hot too! My Warmoth neck has grown on me to the point where everything else seems awkward.

Re: Color scheme for the Warmoth SG

flames! ive had ideas about doing stuff like that for a long time, id love to see it done

Re: Color scheme for the Warmoth SG

normally i prefer the flames in the other direction, but for some reason when i think of having the gold flames i imagine them coming up from the bottom of the guitar. dunno what this dude has in mind though

Wow, lots of views, only 6 votes. :p

ex-250, as far as the flames are concerned, they'll come from the horns, but I'm looking at a more "old school" flame... something fatter and less whispy, like you might have seen if painted on a hot rod back in the 50s.

I think I've made up my mind, but it would still be interesting to see how this goes. Right now, it's 3-3... clearly not enough votes to gauge puplic opinion.

yeah, thats the same style of flames i was thinking of too (just from a different direction). ive always wanted a V with flames coming outta the top like that though (except i want em to be symmetrical and angled)

Gibson Heritage Cherry/Gold Top Gold is a sweet color choice. But either one will be killer. Looks awsome so far.
