Hey guys,

Wasn't there someone out there making guitar strings in different colors?

Can someone send me a link, or did I dream this?

I did a Google search and came up with alot of strings, but none of which were colored....

Re: colored guitar strings?

yup dr makes a bunch of color coated strings. they arent bad, i bought a case of blue and a case of red. if you like coated strings they are great.

Thanks. I'm gonna give 'em a try. I think it will add a cool, unique look to 1 of my guitars. Hopefully thet won't sound or feel to different than the Gibson strings I currently use...

Re: colored guitar strings?

I haven't used colored strings, but I have heard that dust and flakes start to discolor the fretboard and body after the coatings wear off a little. Is this true?

Re: colored guitar strings?

i used their black beauties on a yellow LP copy and never had any discoloring problems.

They definitely feel like coated strings but i liked the way they sounded

Re: colored guitar strings?

If you are a very heavy right hand player like me they can be a pain. I thought they were a cool idea, but when the coating started to come off it really screwed up my playing.

So these are best for skinny left-handed players?

i think you will notice a difference, i did and i use dr strings but non-coated versions. try em, they are good strings but they are coated which some like and some dont.

if you pick hard the coating will eventually come where you pick off but it didnt change the feel or tone or playablility

Re: colored guitar strings?

So, you use the blue strings for blues gigs?

yeah and red for shred, pink for punk, black for metal.....

i'd like a set with every string being a different color. man would that mess with your head when playing lol.

Re: colored guitar strings?

Could alternate red green and yellow ones when playing reggae or ska. If you use either 9's or 10's the ridiculous color combos are many.

Re: colored guitar strings?

Red Devils are my fav strings!I love em.They last really long..nice sound and harmonics...and the red is just crazy!:D

Re: colored guitar strings?

Thanks for the tips guys...

I picked up a pack of DR "black Beauties" 10-46 and tried them out on my explorer this weekend....

They feel great - just like a regular string, with a little less friction. less squeak... But they do sound different - more metalic sounding in way. I played heavy for about 2 hours and no color has come off yet... I've also noticed some trouble staying in tune, a problem I have not experienced on this guitar with other strings. I guess I'll go back to using GHS boomers like I was before.

They do get an A+ for looking way cool tho. :smokin:

Thanks again for the tips guys. That was a fun little experiment...

Re: colored guitar strings?

Are these the beasts that are the subject of this thread? There is no telling how old these are:
