Combining split coil and single coil pickups.

I'm putting together a bass , inspired by Carl Radle's modified Telecaster Bass, with a split coil moved slightly forward and a single coil slightly toward the bridge. I expect to wire the bass so the pickups can be used separately, with a common tone control. Do I need to order any kind of reverse wound single coil to eliminate hum? How do I go about it? Thanks for any help or advice.

Re: Combining split coil and single coil pickups.

the split coil cancels hum by itself, the single coil will hum when its on. you would need a second single coil or dummy coil to cancel hum.

^^ this

OR: there are of course humbucking pickups available to fit a Jazz bridge slot, however they do not sound quite the same as a single coil j-bass pickup.
