combo thread : active versus passive AND best set for 7-string SSH

Just got a Schecter Super Shredder iii 7-string. It has a 36.5" neck, Floyd Rose and EMG retro-active pickups (2 Maverick SC and the Hot 70 bridge). [The neck plays great and only on the lowest frets do I notice the extra length]

There are two weaknesses with the tone
1) Quack positions, neck+middle is 'okay' and middle+bridge is... too much like the bridge
Some lack in quack tones is physics : active pickups don't do what parallel passives do. Part is the bridge, particularly since it isn't split.
2) Bridge. This is a ceramic 'hot' pickup while the others are alnico 5 'vintagy'. It is a little dark. I'll need to dial rig for this pickup.

What I would want : stratty sound that comes through even with processing, think Scott Henderson or Guthrie Govan
Solutions
1) I can keep working with the actives and try to get the 55-7 from EMG. This should make the m+b and b tones brighter and more vintagy
2) I can dump the active and go passive, and then I would move to SD for everything.
2a) SSL-1 7s for neck and middle (RW in middle)
2b) The hum choice is Pegasus, Custom 5 and Full shred. I want the splt sound to be balanced with the SCs, a strat with an extra gear.
I have a Pegasus in a different guitar, I like it and it splits great (thanks to recommender here)
Custom 5 versus Full shred, boomy versus tight... I really don't know which deflubs the low string?

thanks
