Settle down and hear a tale. I have a Les Paul that came with 498/490s that made it sound like I was using pickups made from rusty cans filled with half-dried dog poo. Changed em out for PGs. Hated the bridge, too brittle. Got a Distortion. Too compressed. Got a custom.
Thought the custom was great, but wanted to see what I could do with it.
Tried a8 roughcast. Too clangy and stiff. Like chewing aluminum foil.
Tried c5. Sounded very good but scooped.
Tried uoa5. Sounded like c5 without the scoop, maybe a bit mushier. Less crunch but it wasn’t bad. Pretty good dynamics and texture.
I was happy with the uoa5 until I got another guitar with a Suhr Aldrich, which pretty much beat my uoa5 custom in every way. Better crunch, thicker highs, nicer cleans. Texture about the same level but hotter.
Put in a polished a8 in the custom. Same as the other a8 before it. Running out of options, I put the ceramic back in.
Awesome crunch. Singing leads with good sounding harmonics. Better cleans than the uoa5 but still ceramicy.
Works great for metal and rock. Works well with the PGn.
The sh-5 custom it shall stay.
YMMV
