Compare GHS Boomers To D'Addario XLs

I Only ask because I want to re-string this Tele that got the new nut last night..I notice I have a few packs of the enviromental Boomers...Before sticking D'Addarios (back) on this axe,you guys tell me a bit about the Boomers.

i bought a 10 pack f 46-10s on sale at gc awhile back. They are missing alot of top end attack from what i remember. I used them all on my rather bright Agile LP which at the time had a pair of Dimarzio air classics in it. they lasted ok and were consistant. But if you want that extended bright tele twang I would say save them for something you want to tame.

GHS makes some awesome roundcore strings but i think these Boomers are more geared for rock players.

GHS Boomers self-destructed on a RG I used to have. A Googe search revealed I wasn't alone on that.

In my experience, they snap like twigs on Floyd Roses. XLs don't.

Not very relevant to your Telecaster but hell, they lasted so short I don't even remember what they sounded like.

I've always found boomers to be rather dull and lifeless right out of the package.

Xl's are brighter and more vibrant to my ears. When you put a fresh set on you know immediately by the difference.

A fresh set of Boomers are like XLs after about 3-4 weeks of hard use.

Funny, my experince with Boomers is the direct opposite. Lasts longer than any D'addarios I've ever used, and has a much lower snap rate.

Ernie Balls have the best sound for rock music!
D'Addarios are the best for single notes, but not as good on chords or rock music.
GHS feel like knives under the fingers as do Dean Markley.

I switched from D'Addario to GHS about two years ago. IME the Boomers break far less and sound more full and balanced out of the box.

I've been using Boomers for few months now... not impressed. They wear out very easily and lack a lot of top end. Gotta go with elixir and daddario next.

I cant remember string breakage ever being a problem with any brand of strings. I think Ive had 2 high E strings break in the last year, both broke while re-stringing. Neither were d'addarios. One was on a set of elixirs that broke at the ball end as I started winding the peg head.

Went with the D'Addarios.....Happy! ;o) As always the intonation was pretty near perfect...Took D'Addarios off and thats why!

I found Boomers to last a very, very short while. I also really dislike Dean Markleys, because I think they're too bright and capture all kinds of string noise. I like Ernie Balls the best of the non-coated, and I like Elixirs best of all.

GHS feels like I am placing my finger on a sharp, hard edge, rather than a nice string....hence, knife edge! LOL
One nice thing about Boomers is they last forever.

I don't like d'addario that much. They feel kinda stiff to me. I feel like I have to try harder while bending them.

also, I agree that boomers have a sound that is best for balancing bright guitars.

also, I agree that boomers have a sound that is best for balancing bright guitars.

I find the stiffness issues with the Fender strings....A set of Fender .009s feels like a D'Addario .010 set....I find the D'addario easier to bend on..Same with the EB Rock N Roll strings.

Yeah thats weird? Never had that when I used Boomers,and I used them for many years back in the early 80s.
