Re: Compound radius?
It's a little more difficult to do fretwork on since you can't use radiused blocks for the length of the neck, but otherwise it's preference. The compound radius gives you a little more comfort on the lower frets for chords and such while giving you a flat radius for a bit more comfort and ease playing in the higher frets. Most people like the speed of a flat neck, but many of them (especially us with bigger hands) tend to prefer a more rounded radius so our hands don't get tired. A compound radius is intended to be a compromise.
I like 'em both ways, actually. I'd probably go with a compound radius myself, but my Jimmie Vaughan's single, rounded radius is pretty nice. I think the neck shape can play a big part, too.
