Compressor guys

I just LOVE my el-cheapo DOD Milk Box. Juices up the gain very nicely and makes the cleans even and nice. I leave it on all the time. My Orange Rocker 30 only has a vol knob for the 'clean'/natural channel. After 12:00, tube gain starts kicking in and my clean is now starting to turn fuzzy. I swapped out the 12AX7 for a 12AT7 and it semi-cleaned up, gave me a bit more headroom if I needed more clean volume.
With my 'new' Lp Deluxe, I'm guessing the mini-hums are'nt as loud as my HB's...last gig, I had to turn my clean up to 3-4:00 as it was too soft in the mix. I had to see if my pedals were on as it was quite distorted:evil:.
Here's where the compressor comes in....I dropped the clean amp vol below 12:00...sounds clean, but too soft. So my compressor LEVEL knob, which was always set to 10:00, is now turned to 3-4:00..INCREASING the soft clean volume, to a respectable gig level. I 'think' I solved the issue, now I have to LOWER my amps gain volume or it will be insanely loud....still hits the Orange's sweet spot. You guys use you compressor this way? Am I on to something good here?

Re: Compressor guys

If you want to have some more fun try running it after a dirt pedal. It makes the switch from clean to dirty sound a bit more proffessional(seems like the best word to use). Also it helps smooth out the clean to dirty transition when using the guitar's volume knob to clean a pedal up.

Re: Compressor guys

Thanks. My 'dirt' tone is straight from the amp...through the compressor. I do color the cleans with a few dirt pedals, but mostly OD tones....I'll see what this new tweak does Friday nite.
