I have never seen (that I recall, anyways) a TubeScreamer in person.

(surely I've walked by them in gear store displays)

Nor have I ever played one.

Going on 37 years of playing guitar.

Ive seen them in wild, but like you, never played one, something about that big mid hump isnt appealing to me. I understand why people "flock" to it but just not a sound I want to reproduce.

Try one, you might like it! I have tried several variations in the past couple years. Hated the BBE (thin and nasally), thought a couple were just "eh," but really like the MXR GT-OD/Classic OD.
They give awesome sustain into a crunchy amp. Might make your plexi really sing!

Yeah I like listening to it, but when I go to practice with it myself, I don't get enthused. There are a lot of dirty recorded toanz I really like actually. Mick Mars, Cobain, Euronymous, Johnny Ramone.
