I'm surprised to see these two similar cabinets have a large difference in price, and maybe I'm not reading the specs correctly.
Laney GS212PE: http://www.laney.co.uk/products/product_details/168
Hughes and Kettner TM212: http://hughes-and-kettner.com/products/cabinets/tm212/
Both 2x12 cabs. Both come with Vintage 30s. Both closed-back. Both look about the same deal.
"The TM 212 cabinet features two 12” Celestion Vintage 30 in a vented, dove-tailed birch ply housing..."
"...[The GS212PE is] Manufactured out of 15mm Baltic Plywood these cabinets are tone full, handles bottom end like nothing else..."
And yet, the H&K is about 50% more expensive.
What would I pay extra for, exactly? Are H&K cabs built in Germany? I'm guessing the Laney is MIC?
The H&K is rated as being 2 kilos lighter, which I guess it's not bad.
Is the H&K really that much better? Sadly I'm unable to try them side by side.
I'm a cheapskate when it comes to gear BUT I'm willing to put down some bills for a cab that will really bring out the best of my amplifiers. It's too much of a critical element to ignore IMO.
Also, if any of you has experience with these two, I'm waiting for your comments.
Thanks!
