Actually I've seen most of the set now small bits at a time =). So maybe there's no pint in trying anymore! At least the songs I've seen all seem good (exept running free as that probably means no drifter =().

I guess it's time for you to get a good amp.

Yes, I think it is. But I am still not a septuple-rectifier into 800 tons of celestion-loaded 4 x 12 cabs kind of guy. Also, I have a bad back and CANNOT go above 40 lbs. So, I guess, good tube preamp into tube power amp into 2 stereo 1 x 12's. OR substitute GT-8 or POD xt live for tube preamp, for flexibility.

Thanks all for your input. Just kind of jonesin' for an SG after I saw Ocasek play one in that concert video.

BTW, for all the lighter pop-like stuff The Cars were doing, in concert the guitars were just cranked.

Re: Considering an SG. Help!?

A couple of guys mentioned not being able to dial in great clean tones on the SG. Has anybody tried to do this on an SG Classic w/ P-90 pups? I heard they sound AMAZING clean.

Re: Considering an SG. Help!?

I get GREAT clean tones with my SG. Having said that, this is with the stock 490r bridge and a Seth neck. Both are vintage-ish output A2 pickups, and the probably helps.

Alnico II's sound amazing clean in an SG, I loved the APH's cleans in the neck. But overdriven is a different story.... may as well pop a single coil in there.

i also get pretty darn good cleans out of my SG, with a JB at the bridge and the stock neck pickup. for cleans i like to use the middle position mostly, sometimes just the neck. and with the JB, the distortion tones just scream

I like the super distortion better for screaming bridge tones. But you're right, middle and neck are the way to go with SG's on clean. Not a fan here of the bridge cleans, not just on the SG.

Re: Considering an SG. Help!?

I just hooked up an SG Standard and I would agree that the best clean tones are in the middle or neck. I'm going to swap out the bridge as I'm searching for some nice vinatge blues/roc tones like ealry Clapton, Angus, Billy Gibbons. I'm hearing the 59b is the ticket. Any ideas?
