Contentment with one guitar?

Re: Contentment with one guitar?

i really only have g.a.s. for one guitar and that's something with P-90's...oh and a strat or 3 pup tele...oh and a semi-hollow...but that's it!

Re: Contentment with one guitar?

Contentment with only one guitar? Yes, if I could find "that one guitar"...

Re: Contentment with one guitar?

Give me a tremolo equipped guitar that does Albert Collins in the bridge and classic clean Strat tones in the other 4 positions and I'm set.

Re: Contentment with one guitar?

I have several guitars, but the one that goes to ALL my gigs (sometimes all by itself) is my Les Paul, loaded with a set of Duncan 59s. I can cover any style I need to with that guitar. Now it is fun to bring the others out to play as well. However, if I had to do just one it would either by my Les Paul or a PRS with the 5-way rotary switch.

Re: Contentment with one guitar?

I thought I have found the guitar in a 1996 PRS CE 24. It was a gold top with chrome hardware. I waited for 3 years to be able to buy it and some kid with rich parents bought it. Then it came back six months later with peeling paint and chipped chrome. The kid had acid sweat and screwed up the action of the guitar. It never played well or sounded good again. So now I have 8 guitars and still the one eludes me.

Re: Contentment with one guitar?

nope, not just one ... just two? yeah, i could do that ... i rarely even have the tele clone, the semi hollow, or the HSH outta their cases since i got the EJ strat and my brian moore i8.13 ... if i had a roady/tech and cartage, i'd have all three of them join me ... plus i'd want a bunch more (LP, ric 12 string, dual P90 guitar, big ol jazz box, etc)

Re: Contentment with one guitar?

And don't all the great guitarists have huge collections? Geez, we ordinary guys should be able to have a few ourselves.

Yeah, the greats do have bunches, but most of them play just a couple regularly. EVH has bunches and normally plays frankie, Slash has a ton of vintage pauls and more, but has one or two that he plays regularly.
Ace Frehley has a bunch, Played his one or two LPs. Clapton-blackie ,Kieth Richards- the tele, so on .

Chileanguy,
Nothing wrong with that Bro! Im glad and even envious of you that you are content with your rig.

Im finally getting my mind on the right track that any deficiencies in my playing are due to lack of skills and NOT gonna be solved by gettin a dif guitar.

It is nice to have the icing for the cake tho...

Re: Contentment with one guitar?

I understand the point that we all spend too much time worrying about what we're playing instead of how we're playing, but some of us need some inspiration at work to keep going, and if I die with tons of guitars filling my house never completely satisfied then I'll still die happy. Playing guitar is one of my biggest joys in life, and despite how happy I am with whatever guitar I can play at that moment I will also find happiness in looking at every guitar ever made on the internet to kill the time when I can't play one. One guitar? not for me.

There's definitely more emphasis on having different guitars for different styles than I think there should be. IMO any guitar can be used for almost any style, for me the need for multiple guitars is more about wanting them. I just want them more than I want to spend money on other things.
