Convert A Tube Bass Amp Into Acoustic Guitar/PA Amp?

Hi all. Need some help to verify if this can be done effectively. I own a Fender Studio Bass amp. Six 6L6's pumping 180 watts of extremely clean transparent power. I do not play bass much. I am thinking about cutting a hole in the baffle for a tweeter or horn driver and adding a 2-way crossover network so I may transform this amp into a live acoustic guitar/pa amp for gigging. What do you think?:yell:

I've used my bass amp and have played thru others with an acoustic guitar and the results were all very good. Just needed to play with the EQ some...didn't need any mods. As for a PA, I couldn't say, but before doing mods, what did it sound like with a mic and a 1/4" input mic cable?

I would try it as is before hacking up the baffle. You could add a tweeter, like a piezo tweeter (naturally capacitive which rejects lows) with an L-pad volume on it, to adjust its output.

Jeffblue, does the external speaker connection shut off the main speaker?

Good question. I need to find out before I do something drastic.

Thanks for your reply. I need to hear what the piezo tweeter would sound like with the speaker.

Thanks for your reply. I see where your going with this. If the external speaker does not shut off the main speaker, I could wire an L-pad and the tweeter from the external speaker out. Excellent.

... or if it does cut off the main speaker, use a PA speaker on the external connection.
