Converting Metcalf's Strat med to star shielding

I am trying to covert Steve Metcalf's shcmatic on the link below to the "star grounding" aproach.

http://www.seymourduncan.com/website/support/spr99.shtml

I am confused on two things:

The GuitarNuts site says when there is a non-signal ground braid, it should be soldered to a control pot, not the star ground, and the "regular ground" should be soldered to the star ground.

Is there more than one ground on this set-up for each pickup? How do I know if it is a non-signal ground braid? sorry, not a technie...

Finally, does it matter which side of the tone pot I use for the hot lead? Metcalf has his on the opposite side of most other schmatics I see.

thanks for any help.

Bumpjng again and a new Q

Still hoping this forum might help on the previous question.

New question (really the same) is that each of my SDs shows one wire and a braid drain being combined to ground. Does that mean the braid drain is a non-signal ground?

If it is, that tells me I have to ground that separately to a control body and run the ground wire to a star ground (per "Queting the Beast") in guitarNuts.com

Sorry, they must have changed something on their site. I don't recall anything about seperate ground. The whole point of star grounding is to have a single ground point. Could you link us to the page?

Yes, the braid in question would be non-signal ground. That is the grounding for the base plate etc. all of the grounds come together at single point anyway (the output jack) so I am not sure why it matters. The site is good info though so I would go with what they have to say.

Thanks for responding.

Yes, "most" ground wires go to the star ground, but there is a tiny footnote in their article that says if there is a separate braid shield, it should be grounded separately on a control body. Don't know why.

But your answer is exactly what I needed to know how to proceed.

Thanks again.
