Hey everybody,
I have an old Crate G60 that I ripped the guts out of. I replaced the 4ohm speaker with the 8ohm Fender/Eminence speaker that originally came in my Blues Jr., just to test it out. Sounded just fine. There was a space left above the speaker baffle where the amp was (front controls :duh: ), so I searched threads about speaker cabinets and found that 3/4" Baltic Birch ply seemed to be the way to go for the baffle. So off I went to the local hardware store/ major lumber supplier in the area and they are making the baffle (for $11.00)as I type. I'm also going to add some addition support for the baffle at the top of the cab, probably 1x1 pine. It's a 3/4 open backed cab. The cab is solid though it appears to be pressboard :smack: Oh well. My questions are:
1) Anything I should do to the inside of the cab to solidify or insulate it?
I've heard of using heavy duty paints or perhaps some form of padding.
2) What gauge wire should I use for hooking up the 1/4" jack I plan on
installing in the rear?
3) Any other recommendations for having a decent cab from my meager
beginnings?
I'm not looking to have a stellar cab, just an extra 1x12 to test out speakers or save my back from moving a 2x12 around if it's not necessary.
If y'all can think of anything that might be of use to me, I appreciate it.
Peace,
Darrin
