A buddy of mine who just started playing acoustic about a month ago came back to my place all excited about his latest yard-sale find: an old Supreme head from (my guess) around the '70s. He got it for 25$...darn him... The thing is quite old, looks beat to death but everything inside looked fine. 2 6V6s, 2 12ax7s and that's almost all there is to be seen on this thing.
I ordered some new tubes (the old ones were old GE tubes, quite cool but they sounded like a dead light-bulb when you shook 'em), which came today so we changed 'em, changed the 2-prong power cord to a 3-prong one and made sure everything inside was ok.
Then we powered it up...
Man! This is a pretty cool little amp! Nice little lofi sound, gets crunchy quite soon. Sounded quite bright with my Junior but sounded amazing with my LP Custom... didn't play that long but he left it here (but went home with the head case to clean it up) so I'll have more time to have fun with it, plug in a few ODs and such. Oh yeah: it was real nice with the harmonica too...
I'll leave you with a few pics. The chassis doesn't say Supreme on it, only "made in Canada" so my guess is that it falls in the "Valco" category from that period...
Enjoy!
