Re: Cool New Supersonic Link W/Soundclips

Cool clips. They really demonstrate the great blues overdrive tones that the amp is capable of, and the rock tones as well. Most of the rock tracks had only moderate gain, which serves to demonstrate the amp's singing tone with more moderate amounts of gain.

The last track had a little more gain on the lead tone. It's nice how the amp stays nice and defined even with some more gain heaped on.

One thing that the tracks didn't demonstrate was what the amp sounds like with the gain really turned up. I dont think it's capable of quite as much gain as maybe a 5150 or XXX, but it will do a mean, nasty scooped metal tone, and it still remains defined even with the gain maxed. It's really hard to get a bad tone out of this amp.

The link mentions "rumblings about quality control". I hadn't heard anything about that. If it's true, I guess I got one of the good ones!

Re: Cool New Supersonic Link W/Soundclips

i owned one and have used several, but i can't say that i've ever noticed a flaw whatsoever. great amps, well made, and sound so good you'll still be finding great tones a year after you buy it. this has got to become a legendary amp in my book. i never quite heard anything like it.

i like hte way the clips demonstrated how the amp would sound with different speaker upgrades. pretty cool.

I can't say I've heard anything quite like it either. It is recognized as Fender's first serious product that offers a high gain channel. I think Fender has made some solid state amps aimed at fans of high gain but I don't think most take them seriously. The SuperSonic's burn channel really sounds good with a lot of gain. Someone here on the board described it as sounding like a Mesa but without the harshness.

If they dont catch on, they may end up being one of those amps that gear hounds will be hunting down and paying big money for 20 years from now.

Re: Cool New Supersonic Link W/Soundclips

no s***, seriously. i agree, these amps are destined to become a classic. it's almost literally like having 4 fender amps in one. you got a vibrolux that sounds just like a vibrolux, a bassman that sounds like a bassman, and an overdrive that can do deville type stuff and then rollover to get mesa type distortion. i've heard the mesa thing to and would agree after comparing it next to my mesa 5:50, except that hte fender has a lot more gain. it's like a mesa boogie with that signature fender flavor.

Kinda like the amp that it's constantly being compared to and mistakenly assumed built on: The Prosonic.

One thing I really like about the SS is the option of either a blonde cab or the black/salt n pepper. It can cater to the classic Fender folks or the folks willing to think Fender can offer some modern stuff with its own identity.

Re: Cool New Supersonic Link W/Soundclips

i'm exchanging my blond supersonic for a black one tomorrow. it just fits my personality more. furthermore, i just found out how truly good the tone bursts out with the extension cab.

oh man, i plugged that amp into a mesa extension cab and a marshal 2x12 and it sounded super. what an amp man, what a great friggin amp. i'm still finding out new stuff about it.
