MAC AND FREAKING CHEEEEEEEEEZE. Sorry, metalhead guitars with graphics look so odd to me. The explorer looks fine, and it should be black.

Re: Cool or Cheesy? YOU DECIDE!!!

Hmmm I dont like the graphic personally.. BUT, thats a pretty good deal on that axe..

Re: Cool or Cheesy? YOU DECIDE!!!

Cheesy COOL. Pick one up if you like it. :cool2:

This. I go back and interject myself in temporal dimensionality and I could see this being a intermediate level metal guitar. I dont think its for me so much anymore, bet we all gotta cut out teeth on soemthing, and I think this is a pretty cool guitar fo young guys.
Vote for Cool.

agree with headstock suckage, I like the old school V, of course I do have an 82 baby V w/ an Invader that just screams. graphics are dethworthy.

Re: Cool or Cheesy? YOU DECIDE!!!

In case anyone is interested, here's the other, non-graphic version of the guitar. Thoughts?

Personally I dig it. If the cheaper one didn't have the graphic, I would just get it as I usually dig rosewood over ebony. But since this one has no graphic and has the Mustaine Pickups which I searched and heard good things about, this is becoming more appealing despite the price hike.

Re: Cool or Cheesy? YOU DECIDE!!!

The guitar is cool but the graphics a bit of a meh.

One of the few cool graphics I've seen in a guitar is Keith Merrow's Darth Vader Agile.

E: Here's a pic of it. He painted it himself.

The guitar could be placed in that picture and no one would notice anything different.

Re: Cool or Cheesy? YOU DECIDE!!!

I voted "nay". If it wasn't a low end Dean, and had a better looking headstock, and a better paint job, then maybe it would be cool.

Re: Cool or Cheesy? YOU DECIDE!!!

Don't pay $500 more to "not" get the graphics. If you prefer the rosewood and you've played it and like it, get that. Pay $10, or whatever it costs, for a flat black spray can. Tape off the board and sides, just paint the top, and you're done.

If you absolutely need to make it look pretty, paint it all or get someone to do it. Getting someone to paint it should still cost less than $500.

However, I would bet there is a difference between the two models besides graphics and an ebony board and pickups. I could be wrong, but I would expect the higher priced guitar to get better woods or at least there be more consistency in the manufacturing. Maybe that's not the case, but I would expect it.

That said, if you've played the $500 guitar and you like it and it plays well, etc., get it. ****, get 2 and paint each a different colour :)

Re: Cool or Cheesy? YOU DECIDE!!!

that silver one is pretty nice. im on the fence about that particular headstock, dont hate it, dont love it. the other dean ones are horrendous tho in my humble opinion.

Re: Cool or Cheesy? YOU DECIDE!!!

I don't hate the graphic although I was never in that phase, even when I was in the appropriate age.

I seriously doubt the 2x price can only be attributed to the ebony board and pickups. There's all kinds of extras in the wood and luthiery departments that should be better for twice the price.

I won't vote as IMO the answers lies with you.
Play both, if you can't tell an appreciable difference get the cheap, repaint if it bothers you, you're still about 200-300$ ahead. Chances are though that the 1000 one will both feel and sound better out of the box...

That is the least appalling Dean headstock I've ever seen, which ain't saying much...

Dean Zeros

Dean Zeros

I dont know, overall in my opinion, the Mustaine Zero has been a good addition to Dean's lineup. Good friend has a Silver one and a graphic one. Both B stock with small finish blemishes and they are real nice.

I have played both the imports and the USAs. Good feeling guitar. Headstock is easily reached for tuning and has good angles to achieve good sustain transferance consistant with that headstock style.

I would like a USA DM Zero in Korina but can live without it at the moment and forseeable future as I have enough Korina/limba goodness and "explorers" as it is.
