Cool Rails Neck Model Or Bridge Model In Middle Of Strat?

Hi guys-- this is for an Alder body/Maple Fretboard Strat, w/ S1 switching (and therefore all 4 of the additional pup combos that delivers w/the Switch down); the sounds I'm looking for are primarily a ballsy, raunchy, screaming blues on the one hand; and a heavy/classic 70's-style hard midrange-full rock sound on the other hand (along with the option for a nice, third, mellow sound as well). So, given that these are my two definite pups:

JB (or Custom 5) in the Bridge;
Cool Rails (Neck Model) in the Neck;

then, for the middle, would you use a Cool Rails Neck Model or a Cool Rails Bridge Model?

Thanks for all & any wisdom!!! :)

You have the option of choosing either one according to your preferences. Generally, an neck-model pickup is used in the middle position, but you may want to consider the bridge version just for more variety.

thanks, baritone! that is exactly what i'll do-- in fact, just ordered the pair of cool rails (n/m & bridge-- already have the jb trembucker)--- i think the higher output bridge-model pup in the middle will really work out well in terms of evening-out the output down the line from neck-to-bridge, & keeping a relative lid on the trebles coming from the middle spot-- can't wait to get these in there & test them out! much gratitude for your advice!

Yep. Typically, the neck model is actually a neck/middle version, but the bridge version will work.

For me it depends entirely on what I'm pairing it with. In your case, I say you're fine with what you've ordered, and you could have gone either way in the middle position. Where you really have to get conscious is when using a lower output pickup. I usually recommend a bridge model VR in the middle when paired with cool rails and hot rails.

The Duckbucker has really low output, and I use a neck version for the middle position on my guitar. There's so much cool stuff you can experiment with once you have some experience.

Just think of it as having put a Hot Rails in the middle. ;)
