Hi, my friend took these snapshots of a guitarist and we've been trying to figure out what Seymour Duncan model of single coil pickups these are/were:

Re: Could someone please identify these Seymour Duncan pickups?

anyone like to take a guess on this? still pretty clueless.... Are they old stock pickups maybe?? :smack:

Re: Could someone please identify these Seymour Duncan pickups?

Most likely old Hot stacks.... but the stickers on the bottom would tell us for sure (I know we can´t see them, but...)

Re: Could someone please identify these Seymour Duncan pickups?

thanks for the response. what makes you think they're hot stacks? have you seen them before?? because I haven't been able to find any that look like these anywhere!! arrrghhh...
thx again for the response.

Re: Could someone please identify these Seymour Duncan pickups?

Hot stacks are afaik the only single coils that were ever available with a fully closed cover w/ the "humbucker logo"... I had a set that looked identical about 10 years ago... the new ones have a continuous bar... ;)

Re: Could someone please identify these Seymour Duncan pickups?

what did you think of the sound? are you using the newer ones now?? i guess i'm not even sure if these are lead pickups either... or what type of music they'd be used for.

All I really remember is that 10 years ago they were too hot for what I wanted, but still quite "stratty", sorry....

I don't think they're Duncans, I remember a pickup years ago in the '80's, Ultrasonics, that had a logo and look like those. Tom Anderson used them for a while.

Ultrasonic logo is a black U in a white box, but the one pictured is clearly the same SD logo you can see off to the top left of the forum. ;)

Zerberus is right!!! I finally have confirmation on this, I found an online auction with this picture in it, they're clearly the ones! These were advertised as "Seymour Duncan original Hot Stacks with burgundy colored covers (rails not visible) from the mid-80's". Thanks Zerberus!!
Look familiar?

btw the ad also said they were "for strats". hmmm.... sounds familiar yet again! question is though, what were they doing in a Jackson?? would "strat" mean just the body style of the guitar or would it mean like a Fender strat for example? does it really matter?

"For Strats" is just a general term describing the formfactor of the pickup /where it will fit... It really only means it´s a standard Single coil formfactor and as such will fit standard SC routs with no modification to the actual guitar ;)

Has nothing to do with where the pickup can "really" be used... for example some people (like yours truly) use a JB (which is a "bridge pickup" by design / original intent) in teh neck slot with astounding results.

That´s the nice thing about pickups (actually guitars in general): If you can think of it, you can probably do it... It´s only a question of how practical it is and / or how much it will cost, and of course if YOU´RE happy and inspired by the result is the ultimate criteria :)
