Cracked Neck - Ibanez RG770DX

Noticed that the neck on my ibanez rg770dx is cracked. Any suggestions?

It is cracked up from the 3rd fret on one side to the nut bolts and back down to the 2nd fret on the other side. Still plays and stays in tune fine. Haven't been playing it much lately, so I just found the crack.

Where to have it repaired/replaced?

THANKS! Mine is almost exactly that crack.

Looks like that will work. Just gotta love the wizard necks. Of course it is 14 years old.

Why do Ibanez necks always have so many problems?? I've had nothing but trouble with Ibanez necks... I think they must be a bit too thin.

I know exactly what you mean, Shroud. Although come to think of it, the necks on some Jackson Concepts and late ´80s /early ´90s Fusions make a Wizard look like a baseball bat, but have no breakage problems.

Part if it is definitely the through neck mounting of the locking nut, weakening the neck at that area. And I´m pretty sure that even the prestiges don´t use the quality of wood that most others do, but that may be wrong. I´ve just never been happy with the overall build quality of Ibanez´s, they always seem "flimsy" to me.....

But that tutorial is good. The gluing is more or less exactly the way I do it, I just wasn´t too happy with the sanding ending @220 grit

This is why i love fender strats... one solid peice of maple with no joint.

I had a Jem 555 but i had to sell it because the humidity seasonal changes in this area of the US warped the neck after 2 years! Stupid thin ****ty peice of asian crap maple... thats probably why it didn't sustain worth a damn either.

yea, a lot of it comes down to the quality of the woods used, though having a chunk of wood removed at the neck to install a locking nut is asking for trouble, IMO

I've followed that guide to do my RG's neck. Works wonderfully. Just a tip, if your going to have a go at it, buy the best wood glue you can find.

I tend to agree that the nut bolts are a source of the problem but I don't think wood quality has much to do with it. I'd guess that most cracks are due to major accidents or repeated knocks that eventually will kill em'.

The fact is that Ibanez's wizard necks can't take alot of abuse because the wood is so thin!!! It's a compromise in design that guy's like PG and Vai are willing to live with (of course, it's helps when Ibanez keeps throwing em' new ones).

they are damn glued together in the 1st place.. that doesnt happen just so. and not that clean. and you can see the grain is diferent..

a friends guitar snapped there and he glued it once with success, but when he tried it the 2nd time, it didnt stick (maybe because he used glue remover, but who knows ROFL!!)

If you look at the break, it´s not the scarf joint itself but behind it. A one piece neck wouldn´t necessarily have helped´. Although Fenders Straight headstock DOES help when an axe falls over, I think I´ve only seen 1 broken Fender Headstock in my career
