this guy has to be "altered" in some kind of way. this is a harmony central review:
Fender Mini-Twin
URL: www.fender.com
Price Paid: N/A
Features: 10
The features are pretty well outlined here. it has a few excellent features that all add to the tone, like all classic amps. Good looks, yet a little bity understated. A wolverine dressed up like a gerbil if you ask me....
Sound Quality: 9
I use mine with my 59 Les paul sunburst.
Here is my live rig....I a/b the amp with a marshall plexi. The marshall covers the mids and this mini covers the brutal distorted sounds I need as I'm a pretty sloppy player and need to keep my head bopping so cannot focus on the fretboard much.
I do not have any problems with it falling over as i have bolted it to my marshall 1960 a 4- 12 cabinet. I take the headphone out and run it into a 1000 watt crown slave. The crown actually drives the Marshall cabinet, but the mini twin gives the tone.
I keep the volume at around 4 because after that i lose some harmonics with the distortion creep.
I use no overdrive pedals with it, but do use a volume pedal to tame the beast. The amp responds very well to pedals. They seem to "open up". Must be the innovative circuitry.
I especially love the vintage looks and the high quality cabinetry. But for 30 bucks i expect the best. This retires my Deluxe reverb. i have found my sound and this is it.
Reliability: 10
Yes. It is excellent quality like all fender products. it is very versatile also and i use two in stereo for smaller clubs when I dont want to haul around the plexi to my regular free beer gig.
I have them face opposite directions for off axis sound dispertion. Incidentally this way they can almost support the weight of the guitar cord. When they fall over the audience usually expects a Kirk Cobain thing. I try not to disappoint, and that is where my goldtop went, oh well the cost of rock ....
The drummer asked for a drum mix in his monitors after i cranked these babies. However you need to elevate them if you are not using a slave. I tie mine from the cieling with dental floss, and when i crank them they start to spin. Gives the most amazing leslie sound....
Last summer we played at an alternative energy fair and a single long haired hippy on a bike provided enough energy from the built in generator to operate a stage full of these mean mothers( wired alternatively is series and parallel) as well as a waffle toaster. Now that is reliable. After all the greenbacks only handle 25 watts each. 4 of them handle a hundred. At one watt each from these amps you get the picture.
Customer Support: 9
No need. Rock solid, great vintage plastic and transistors. What more do you need for good vintage and solid tone? Man if Chuck Berry has had access to this we'd all be playing 7 string guitars.
Overall Rating: 10
if it were stolen i'd look for a small person, ( perhaps a troll or someone of similar stature) and beguile him with stories of my youth. Then when he passed out from boredom I'd take it back and shove him down a drainhole, or dangle him in front of a cat. As a touring pro I have a zillion endorsements for high gain amps, this is the one I really use. Tye stacks on stage are mostly empty for show. Yup you heard it here first. Rock on.
