crate v-series

Re: crate v-series

To have the word Crate stamped on them....yes they sound pretty dang good.

Re: crate v-series

I really like the V-Series. The stock speakers are OK, but the Tone Tubby speakers that you can get in them are even better. Talk about throw....sheesh. I was playing a 30-watter with a Tone Tubby Green in it and the sucker had some serious throw to it, clear across the store loud and clear with the volume on 3. From what I've been told about various local techs, those amps are built really well.

Re: crate v-series

I have a V3112 30 already fitted with a tone tubby green + an extra speaker box with another tone tubby green. I also upgraded the tubes (valves) it is a kick-arse amp!

Wait 'til you try the tone tubby red

And yes they are loud with the volume on 3 (1 in my case )

Friend of mine just bought the 5212 and the guy at the store informed us that they no longer come with celestions. They come stock with Tone Tubby TT Ceramic 40/40 12" speakers. It can be very loud...but Id almost suggest getting the new 30 head with the 2x12 cabinet, so you can push those tubes a bit, instead of playing lower with the 50W. Trust me, as EricH says, can throw some serious sound.

The only problem he has had so far was the speaker wire actually fell right off. When lookin at it, it wasn't soldered or crimped or anything on the speaker.

All and all great great thick tone......and best part for a great price.

Re: crate v-series

They sound REALLY good with livewire metal pickups in a jackson for insane metal thats all i know.

The other V series that kicks major arse is the v32 palomino and the v30 head

Re: crate v-series

I have a V-32 and the clean channel is excellent. I put JJ's in it and a Mojo 12H30 and it improved it a lot.....it's my poor mans Matchless. :)

Re: crate v-series

I have a V-16. I'm not a big fan of the stock Celstion speaker -- that, plus the cab, can make it sound boomy. For kicks, I plugged the speaker leads from my V16 into the speaker leads of my JC120: much better. Right now, I'm running a combination of a Weber Blue Dog and a JC120 speaker, with the JC 120 acting as a 2x12 for the Crate, and this combination sounds pretty darned good.

The Crate really is a suprisingly good sounding tube amp.
