Creating a p.u.: how do you tweak the eq?

I've always wondered how is possible to tweak the eq and the output of a pickup. Take the PAF and the EJ Cucstom Bridge for example.
PAF.....................Alnico5, 203mV, 8.09K, 6(treb) 5.5(mid) 6(bass)
EJ Custom Bridge...Alnico5, 200mV, 7.65K, 8.5(treb) 5.5(mid) 4.5(bass)

Sometimes the DC resistance is very similar and the output is very different! How do you tweak those parameters?

..just curious

Different Wind, different gauge of wire, different gauss of magnet, different polepieces, different baseplate material, different bobbin material... the possibilities are endless ;)

On that example in particular, 7.69k vs 8.1k is a pretty big gap. That alone can account for their differing EQ ratings.

Also remember their ratings, as well as Duncans, are somewhat subjective. ;)

As for output, same DC resistance and wire gauge, one with Alnico II and one with an oversized Ceramic will be very different in output. (and EQ obviously)

You mean that the baseplate is not always brass and the bobbin material changes from one pickup to another?!......hm....weird
