Crunch lab clip

Wasn't sure at first, but now I'm pretty satisfied with the crunch lab chugga chugga. Not as warm as most bridge humbuckers that I like, but it has a nice cutting sound that is pretty awesome. This is installed in a very un-crunchlab-like guitar, a LP shaped all mahogany washburn idol. It is still nice and bright even though the dimarzio specs would lead you to believe this is a really dark pickup. Probably helps that I replaced all of the guts in this guitar with CTS 500k pots, orange drop caps...it is super clear and bright now, can handle a ton of gain and effects.

Re: Crunch lab clip

That sounds a bit bright compared to my CL, and I have it in an Alder-bodied guitar. If you're not using it with the bar forward, try it. The punch and body that slot brings is pretty incredible.

Re: Crunch lab clip

I have the bar towards the neck, and yep still pretty bright but I love it! I was worried this pickup would be too dark with bar towards neck, not the case. I credit the overall upgrade of all components in the guitar. I realized I cut the bass out of the eq a bit more than I usually do, once I add the bass back in I think I'll have it just where I want it. Thought I'd try a magnet swap but Im so happy with it now that it will do more harm than good.

That clip sounds kind of buzzy, but I can tell that the tone would be huge in the room at high volume. You're playing through the XXX there?

Yeah, I have a long way to go in terms of getting the right tone of my xxx and recording it. I have a shure sm57, but don't really know anything about recording guitar, just doing the best I can for now. My od and eq pedals might be overkill, I may try some more direct to amp recordings in the future.

Get prepared to enjoy playing solos on 'em. For some reason when I've played any of my DiMarzio's it feels like they're for solo-playing. It's not just a stereotype. :P
I know, I'm more of a rhythm player than solo player but these pickups are begging my hands for solo runs.

Re: Crunch lab clip

Yeah - I've recently found myself re-outfitting my guitars with Dimarzio's also. I just put the Crunchlab in two of my guitars. I also just put a D-Sonic and Liquifire in both of my 7 string guitars. They absolutely kill. Solo work just jumps out with tons of attack, a little bit of compression and no harshness. I think if you're after a more modern rock/metal tone, Dimarzio seems to have filled that niche pretty well.

Re: Crunch lab clip

Yep, Dimarzio's modern metal awesomeness has me seriously questioning why I own a set of EMGs now. Much soul/tone searching ahead, thinking of getting rid of the emgs or maybe just my esp viper in general.
