Curse you, Monte Allums!

I was up until 12:30 last night, installing Monte's GT mod kit in my Boss SD-1. The problem is, once I get going I can't stop. Every time I get one component changed out and tested, it's like, "Well.... maybe just one more." And since it's late at night and I'm out in the garage, each component test turns in a half-song play-along with the classic rock on the radio: Pull C6, play along with Uncle Ted through half of 'Stranglehold'. Swap R17, try it out on 'Two Tickets to Paradise'.

Next thing I know, it's 12:30 a.m. and I have to be at work the next morning.

Which I am now, and I'm a zombie.

I'm only 2/3 of the way through the installation, and already the pedal is sounding great. At each step, I test to make sure I got it right. I'm playing it through my 18 Watter with the attenuator turned way down low (it's 12:30 after all). Under those conditions, few of the individual mods make a huge, audible difference. But the contributions of 10 little mods really add up. The guitar sound has all these overtones that really bloom - like its almost feeding back, even though the amp is really quiet. Wow.

I know I'm going to end up finishing it tonight, and I'll really be a zombie tomorrow. :eek5:

But boss, it's all Monte's fault!

I know the feeling, Rich. Been there, done, that. Happened last week actually while modding my SD-1 to TS-808 specs. I changed a few parts one night, then a few more the next, then a few more. Next thing I knew almost the whole circuit was changed...LOL. I'm please with the results though so it was worth it.
