I am entering the arena of custom painting electric guitars and basses. Has anyone tried this personally? If so, your thoughts / advice.

I've refinished a couple guitars. First one had many, many flaws... Second was awesome... Haven't tried a third. I'd be really interested in knowing how to pin strip guitars. Anyone seen Daryl's House lately with the Rev. Billy Gibbons? Billy had a sweet SG Standard with a custom pinstrip job.... Uber cool!

I ruined a few guitars in my younger days thinking I had the skill and patience to refinish a guitar the right way! Live and learn......YMMV.

For advice, I can only think of don't use gloss paint (doesn't stick well) and do it in warm, dry weather.

Yes. What do you want to know?

My advice is to only do it if you have a sealed booth, proper air gun, and good quality paint and the know how to spray it. I do mine with a primer/basecoat/clearcoat, exactly like you would a car.
