Custom 5 is it as scooped as the tone chart makes it out to be

Re: Custom 5 is it as scooped as the tone chart makes it out to be

i found the custom 5 to be really scooped......i must say though that i tried it in a strat so maybe in a les paul ti will sound better....I still think that the c5 needs more mids............In other words........do not underestimate the power of the ceramic Custom .......

Let me add, in defense of the (ceramic) Custom, that it is a very well balanced, satisfying pickup to play, and it has plenty of mids. It is not really harsh like other ceramics, and it cleans up nicely. You do notice a tad bit of fizz on the top end. While I have not used either in Les Pauls, I had a Custom, Custom 5, Custom Custom, and Custom 8 in the same guitar. The Custom 8 was grating and very focused on upper mids. The Custom 5 was boring, hollow, and bottom-heavy. CC was all mids and fizzy. Now this is in a bright maple-capped mahogany, so your results may vary; many here like it in an LP. But for my particular application--compared directly to the Custom, it was missing mids. And the '59 neck in that guitar, while also hollow, was more satisfying to play.
