Re: Custom 5 SH14
Of all of the standard Custom pups (Custom, C5, Custom Custom/C2), I like the C5 best. But I'm not a fan of mid-scooped (PAF type) pups like the '59. The C5 is like a '59 on steroids and still has that mid-scoop. But that can easily be corrected by changing the magnet. The UOA5 mag is a reasonable choice to soften the highs and give it a bit more warmth, but it doesn't go far enough for me. Since I like the inherent aggressive nature of the Custom wind, I capitalize on that by putting an A8 magnet in it. That mag fills in some missing mids, warms it up a bit, softens the highs but keeps them sparkly, and gives it more presence and punch. Makes it full, rich, and tight. Just the way I like a bridge bucker to sound most of the time.
