Custom 5

Re: Custom 5

how would I modify a Custom 5 to increase the mids a little? I like a scooped EQ, but more moderately scooped like a PG or Jason Becker...

Re: Custom 5

I love the SH-14 Custom 5! It's probably my favorite Duncan bridge Humbucker of all time due to its relatively neutral sound, tight bass response, & moderate output....

I have it in several of my guitars but I especially like them in Lesters & paired with a P.G.N. in the neck...

Re: Custom 5

The UOA5 isn't as strong as the regular A5. Closer to an A2.

Thanks D, good to know. I don't see magnet suppliers listing a UOA5...full disclosure, I only looked on Stew Mac's site. I'll keep an eye out now that I know the difference.

Re: Custom 5

One more question, is there a difference between polished and unpolished magnets in terms of the effect on tone?

Re: Custom 5

Roughcast have a more complex top end.
AddictionFX has UOA5 as an option in the drop down menu for ordering A5 magnets, at least the last time I checked.

Re: Custom 5

I think the C5 is a good all-round pickup for different styles of playing. As usual, it depends on your style, your guitar and amp rig. In my opinion, the Custom has more of an edge and snarls the best for hard rock. I always think of Michael Schenker when I hear a Custom with some good crunch.

How many of us are playing a wide variety of music and only have one guitar? I'd rather have a PU that's very good for a few things, than one that's just 'good' for a lot of things. I always bring two guitars to a gig, to have a back up (which may be needed for a number of reasons) and so I can also cover more sonic territory.
