Custom Coils in the Neck (humbuckers)???

I regularly see various Custom/Custom Hybrid humbuckers being recommended for the neck and would like to know what it is that people find so attractive about using a pair of 7k 43AWG Custom coils or a hybrid that includes a Custom coil in this position.

For those who swear up and down:

1) What variation of the Custom are you using?
2) What bridge pickup are you pairing it with?
3) What is the wood of the body/neck/fretboard?
4) How many frets?
5) What is the scale length?

I'd be interested in this as well, as I've always used lower output coils in the neck. What am I missing?

I've not often (read - can never remember one in my limited experience, given I generally ignore high output pickup threads) heard of people using a custom series of humbucker in the neck........but the ssl 5 (custom for strat) is quite popular.

the ssl5 (or ssl6) can be cool in the neck of a strat with 500k pots but i dont like it with 250k. way to dark.

as far as the sh5/sh11/sh14 in the neck... i have a hamer monaco elite that came with a sh5n/sh11 combo and it was ok for soloing but thats about it. warm and fat all around but cleans kinda sucked compared to what im used to. granted its a gibson scale guitar similar to a lp so maybe it would be better in a super strat playing hardrock or metal solos but not my cup of tea.

Sorry, I specifically meant humbuckers. I like and have used an SSL-6 in the neck, but that's not what this topic is about.

Dave, could you change the title of the topic before it goes too far astray?

I haven't done it with the Custom series, but I don't think I'd like it with anything other than an A3.

Except maybe the '59/Custom Hybrid.

Excepting Dual Resonance pickups, the few guitars I've tried with unmodified hot bridge pickups in the neck turned the neck pickup into a one trick pony.
