Custom Colors?

So I've got more than a few guitars with SD pickups, definitely love the sound. I'm in the process of building an Explorer style guitar with 3 humbuckers.

I looked at some Dimarzios and Duncans. Finally decided to go with Duncans but I thought I remember seeing custom colors available for them without using the custom shop.
I know Dimarzio offers this for their pickups.

Was this ever offered by Seymour Duncan? I really don't want to go Custom Shop but would really like a custom color.

Am I forced to use Dimarzio?

Sometimes the stratosphere or eBay will carry custom shop floor models of regular SD pickups, your best bet if you want custom color Duncans without the custom chop is either the stratosphere guitar parts or eBay.

Custom Colors?

Custom color Duncans can be had from online dealers. They'll be sold as floor shop customs. banjomikez (eBay) comes to mind. He has a great stock of pickups. I always go with him if I want particular colors. Especially with the new "metal" pickups that seem to come in all black. After being on the phone with him for a bit, he said that colored Duncans tend crack at the bobbin between the pole pieces. Something to consider if you put an order in.

Ha! I was just going to post this link! If you are looking for a color that isn't covered, you may just want to call and ask. They won't do double cream, but many shades of those colors listed may be available.
