custom , custom5 , or JB ?

O.K. guys i need a pickup for my HAMER chaparral all mahogany strat body single humbucker . with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard , with an original floyd rose bridge. i am using this guitar for hard rock / bluesy rock stuff i am looking for a john sykes kinda tone big/fat/thick/harmonics/sustain . thanks now vote away !!!!!!! later scott

well you already have a guitar with a JB in it, so why not give the custom a try

I agree with ex-250. The Custom will give that mahogany body some clarity and bite.

kinda what i was thinking i just wasn't sure how a custom would sound in mahogany .

I'd say custom, got one in my LP and its a real rockin' pickup.

I tend to like the JB more in alder-bodied guitars.

Since you said "thick" I said Custom...and make it a Custom Trembucker. The Custom Custom is also big and thick.

But didn't John Sykes just use PAF style pickups? I would think the Custom would be a little hot and metallic for a tone like his. In my opinion all of these pickups are on the hot side for real John Sykes type tones.

sykes used gibson "dirty fingers" until they died on him and that was when he was in blue murder so anything from his thin lizzy/tygers of pan tang/whitesnake days would be the dirty fingers and they are kinda hot .

Sweet - I think it's a killer rock pickup. I have a Custom in my Les Paul bridge currently. It's a great rocker - really cool for big chords, and it cleans up well also.
