custom made metal parts?

Anyone here have any idea where I can get some custom made metal parts made?

What I want to make is a tele control plate, but instead of a blade and holes for 2 pots, I want just one hole on one end for a pot, and a hole on the other end for a gibson toggle.

OR...one that looks like the one on the John5 Tele.

Thanks guys, for any leads on a metalshop that can make parts like this.

Re: custom made metal parts?

A friend of a friend does machining and makes aluminum guitars and necks. I'm having him make me an aluminum Esquire guard for my Tele project. I don't know off hand if he works with steel or does plating though.

I've had this same idea. I even tried to order the John 5 plate from a Fender dealer. They couldn't get it. I've got some metal plates that I had stamped out here, but I don't have the means to plate them. I've been meaning to see if a cycle shop might do it.

I'll let you know, once this project gets to the top of the list again. ;)

I was just looking over that Fretsonthe net site. Nice link. I wonder if several of us wanted a similar thing, if he'ld make a batch?

I think I'll email him.

ARtieToo,

I emailed a couple of MotorCycle part places about getting one made, so I'll keep you posted.

As far as getting a batch made, that would be awesome. What was your exact plans for the plate? I made a quick JPG of what I'm thinking, but of course, if the dude needed super detailed art, I can provide vector EPS artwork to him so its perfect.

Re: custom made metal parts?

I had a couple different ideas. One, similar to yours - a nice, clean Esquire-ish type deal. 1 volume, 1 tone, 1 pup.

The next idea is, I always thought a Tele had the vol & tone too far apart. Move the volume back just a bit so there'ld be room for 2 or 3 toggles.

And third idea, would be to leave the volume and tone where they are, but add a push-button between them, and two toggles where the lever switch is.

Give me a sec, and I'll post a pic. ;)

Sorta like this:

btw - Since those are all just round holes, blank plates would work for me. I can drill the holes.

I'd go in for 1 too. Blank is best. I'll drill my own holes.

Re: custom made metal parts?

Good idea guys, about the blank plates.

Can we make then blank, but still have the 2 countersunk mounting screw holes on either end, in their traditional place?

That would be ideal.

I'll take 2 of these please!!!! hahaa.

but seriously, let me know about an order, and we'll all go in on it.
