Custom wiring 2 Hum, 1 Vol, 1 Tone (push/pull), 5-way super switch

Hi everyone,

Newbie here looking for help with a custom wiring diagram (if it even makes sense). I just installed the SD Hot Rodded Humbucker set in my old Ibanez RG and I want to do something different with the wiring but can't seem to find an appropriate diagram for a 2 hum guitar.

I found the attached diagram for inner and outer coil split in positions 4 & 2, but I'd like to add a push/pull tone pot for series/parallel switching.

Also open to ideas to add a push/pull volume pot to increase tonal options.

Thanks in advance!!

I use this switching, and I love it! But you have to flip a magnet in one of the pickups to make it hum-cancelling (and have the right coils selected). I wrote a blog on it.

Hi Dave,

Your blog is where I found the diagram I attached. Thanks for the great article! I appreciate the simplicity and variety that you were trying to obtain in one guitar, and your switching feels perfect for this type of guitar compared to all the other switching schemes that I've found. But I'm wondering how to slightly complicate your switching. I'd like to have series/parallel switching and would ideally do this by replacing my tone pot with a push/pull, but I don't know how to incorporate that into your switching. Can you give any direction on that?

Here's how I did series parallel switching on each pickup with push pull plus out of phase on a switch. My wires might be a different colour, I think it's Gibson colours.

This is my own diagram by the way. When I started I had to work off diagrams, but I don't need to anymore.

But another way is to implement this on each push pull. With this method if you used a 2P3T micro switch up would be series, middle single coil and down would be coil split. Got to try that at some point !
