D'Addario Balanced Tension Thoughts

I bought a few sets of these on an impulse. I had 11s on my Gretsch and they felt pretty normal and tuned up pretty fast but nothing too crazy. Needless to say I thought it was all marketing at that point.

Then tonight I put a set of 10s on my Cleveland Strat with a floating Callaham trem....WOW! The guitar tuned up faster, and the strings seemed to stretch more in unison. I was ultra skeptical after I couldn't tell much difference on the Gretsch, but the ease with which I tuned up a floating trem was pretty impressive. I don't have a guitar with a Floyd, but I imagine these would be ideal for such a beast.

As always YMMV

Re: D'Addario Balanced Tension Thoughts

I've got a set of balanced tension 10s on my floyd-equipped charvel and they are definitely the best strings I've ever had on it, they just feel great and as Luke Duke said they settled down pretty quickly, definitely using these again.

One thing to watch out for is the set of .09s, I'm not a huge fan of those, I gave them a shot since I liked the 10s so much on the Charvel. I put them on my newly refurbished Ibanez(new pickups, pots and the lot), they set up really well as on the Charvel but I think that in their quest to really balance the tensions for the strings that they made the low E string too thin, I found it a bit floppy because its only 0.40 gauge, in fact the G-Low E strings are lighter. Or maybe it just needs a little getting used to, they still feel great though, just not to my liking.

In any case they are great strings, and I'm really happy I finally got along to trying them.

Re: D'Addario Balanced Tension Thoughts

I started putting together my own string sets after getting frustrated and feeling dissatisfied with traditional string sets.
Unfortunately the D'Addario balanced sets don't fully address the issues I have, but they're a step in the right direction

Re: D'Addario Balanced Tension Thoughts

Don't care for them. I definitely like unbalanced strings. 9-46 are my favorite.

Re: D'Addario Balanced Tension Thoughts

Just like them, as they feel and sounds as D'Addarios from before they turned eco way back in the 90's.
Good long life, nice sound and feel.
Have used them for some time now, defently recomendable....until they change the steel again in the future;) It is after all an American company we are dealing with here....meaning that they probally well cheap out again at some point.
If not....then it is just cool! And I will keep on using them.
