Damaged Speaker?

I have an amplifier I was going to sell in the near future. I played the heck out of it but the last couple weeks it's been in my room played only at low volumes. I moved it out into my living room and went to play it a few days later and I noticed that when I strike my heavier strings, my amp now makes a sound like a rattling buzziness along with the good sound. I don't know alot about amps but it almost seems like it's only a problem with my right speaker. So I have a few questions. How can I troubleshoot this? Can I detach one of the speakers and run my amp through a single speaker to check it out without damaging it? I know there is a power distribution issue with amps that is very important. And can anyone tell me how to take a speaker off the right way, before I go ahead and mess with it on my own?

Re: Damaged Speaker?

Is it a tube amp?
If it is, it sounds like a tube problem to me.

I can't help you with the speakers, sorry. They're usually just screwed in though, check they're all screwed tight, it could cause some buzziness if they're not.

Re: Damaged Speaker?

I'm going to check all the screws right now to make sure nothing's loose. It only has a single tube in the pre-amp. No power tubes.

Re: Damaged Speaker?

Now I'm really confused. I tightened all the screws on the speaker and played it again. Same issue. So I decided to remove the speaker and take out the beam blocker I have in there. Put the speaker back on and no problems at all. WTH? How could the beam blocker have started making that noise, and why did it go away when I removed it, but not when I tightened the heck out of the blocker? Wierd...
