I think I'm going to drop the C5 in it as per your suggestion. Your advice on the CC in the Hardtail was pretty dead on, so I'll give the C5 a whirl. The JB sounds good in it, but it's not quite there.

Pickup selection aside, I dig the Asat more and more every day. I love the tone...nice and beefy but still maintains clarity. Plays like butter as well. I've already decided to work in into the line up next weekend when we record.

What scares me about Les Pauls is they somehow got to Jeff_H. He's the reason I ended up giving the Dean Hardtails a try (and I love that guitar as well). If they got to Jeff_H, ain't none of us safe.

As a matter of fact, I've been gassing for a nice G&L ASAT. I'm pretty impressed with their stuff.

I got turned onto it by GearJoneser. I was looking at PRS's (after I returned the Heritage H150 with the funky binding) but was finding them pricey. Up to the point GJ suggested one, I hadn't really investigated the G&L line. I'm blown away by how much guitar I got for the money. It's essentially a Tele with some balls.

Again, in my opinion, I think the most ergonomic shape for a guitar to be used by a human being would be a strat style double cut set neck or neck through with a smooth heel contour. Everything just fits like a glove that way.

i agree and that's why i play my scecter C-1 XXX over my two LPs all the time, much more comfortable to play, less weight and since its mahogany body mahogany set neck with a rosewood board it can fake a typical LP sound with no problem. that's also why i just bought one of these off ebay (same specs as my schecter)...seems to fit you bill fairly well also...yet only a single cut and well one pickup...buy a router if you want more lol.

i don't think double cut is a must but a tummy cut and contour to the heel is great!

Same here! his "hoe-ness" tends to rub off on us. I bought a G&L Legacy a while ago that was sweet as hell. I didn't keep it though because it had some damage the seller didn't disclose on the auction and the neck had an extreme taper to it, wasn't too comfortable for me. Aside from that, it was a beauty.

You just described the Dean Hardtail to a "T". It even has the tummy contour. I love my LP's, but that guitar will always have a spot in my heart, and a place in the regular rotation.

yeah man, without a doubt. I'm actually attracted a lot to the LP and Tele shape. But damn, why would it be such a big deal to add contours to a tele, or a tummy cut to a Les Paul? They would be much more comfortable to play that way.

the american deluxe teles come with a tummy cut and a slight heel contour that helps...just an FYI....great guitars too!!

oh wow I didn't know that. I haven't been keeping up. I usually ignore Fender products. lol. They used to always just be flat pieces of wood cut to the tele shape.

nope, they got wise and added that to all the american deluxe bodies. too bad they cost an arm and a leg for a tele IMO....granted not crazy high but a bit much for a tele IMO. that's why i keep thinking of just buying a body from one and neckplate off ebay and go from there.

Don't worry bro...I still love the Hardtail. It still plays fast and smooth, and has a really cool tone all it's own...as you know. I had some of the same issues with Gibson as you do, but the bottom line is that a bunch of my guitar hero's played LP's, and in my heart I always wanted one. One of my earliest memories is Ace playing his tripple bucker LP Custom with fire comming out of the headstock.

Gibson actually does make some really good LP's....I've been very fortunate to find the two I have. However, it still is not as easy to play up to the 22nd fret on the LP's as it is on that hardtail. Great upper register access as you well know!
