Danelectro Guitars

There is one available for $200 in my neighborhood. I can't say that money is growing on trees these days but I've always wanted one. Its a mid-to-late 90's model.

I am gonna hop over to the store on the weekend to get my hands on it.

How versatile, or limited are these guitars? I've heard that they sound kinda 'nasally.'

I have to admit, they're pretty neat little jobbies. one thing to consider, their bodies are made out of masonite (like countertops) as opposed to wood. It makes for an incredibly light guitar. Overall, I've actually been surprised with them. they play descent, sound great for the dollar. it's just a matter of how long you think they'll be able to last.

Does that mean that they are easily broken?

Off topic, I am pretty sure they use Single coil lipstick pickups, too.

anything will break if you abuse it enough.

It really depends on what model your looking at. The ones with the built in effects are complete crap. I have a Hodad w/ bigsby and its a fine guitar. Im actually digging the new one, a DC-59. Looks promising.

I have a U-3.

Great frets, neck, nut, and it even came with real Gotoh tuners. I like the fact that ine has the individualy adjustable saddles. It sounds great, but because of the lack of output, it's not very versatile. It works great for slightly gritty blues licks, squaky clean country riffing, and, with flatwounds, it even does a good archtop impersonation.

I played one of the new ones that are just coming out. Much, much more solid than the 90s ones. A bit more money, but definitely worth it in my opinion.

Again, much more solid than the 90s ones. The new ones don't feel so much like toys. A lot of those earlier ones were real clunkers right out of the box.

One of the best slide guitars ever made. Listen to any early Led Zepplin and you will hear a Dano on all the slide work. I would say if you can save some money and see if you can find an original that has been refinished. YOu can get them for about 500 to 650. A much better made and sounding guitar. The Lipstick PUPs are to die for for slide!!

Yeah.. come to think of it I remember Jimmy playing one in the new 2-dvd box set that came out recently... now I really want one... holy smokes

The danelectro that Page used was a black DC-59 wasn't it? I've wanted to get one of those for soo long now . . . I do need a single coil guitar for some stuff that I want to do . . .
