Dang I just bought a 24.75 scale Start neck by mistake..

Re: Dang I just bought a 24.75 scale Start neck by mistake..

Regular is 25.5".

It'll be easier to bend and have a slightly less bright tone. Mostly the difference will be in the feel of the strings as well as with the neck feeling shorter.

Take a look at the neck heel. The words "scale converter" should appear on it somewhere. If so, it will still be possible to intonate the finished instrument without needing to relocate the bridge.

Put it up for sale and get a proper Strat neck.

Warmoth Maple Strat Vintage Tint Neck 24.75" scale

What part of that auction title made you think it was a 25.5" scale neck?

Re: Dang I just bought a 24.75 scale Start neck by mistake..

IDK..it just never dawned on me a Start neck would be anything other than a regular neck.
Someone should buy this though, really.

I could see someone wanting a 24.75" scale on a Strat. In fact, I'm really starting to warm up to the idea.

Spell-check has its pros and cons, you know.:27:

I agree with blues bend, tele with a strat neck!!!!

Start neck??? Naw, you're fine. Now if it was a Strat neck, then you'd be fcked. But those Start necks can actually be stretched to 25.5" if need be.

Re: Dang I just bought a 24.75 scale Start neck by mistake..

^ I actually did mean "start" neck. This was to be my start neck, then I was going to finish with a different Strat neck. Sorry for any confusion.

MOVING YOUR SADDLES 3/4 OF AND INCH FORWARD DOESNT WORK . YOUR SADDLES WILL EITHER BE ON TOP OF YOUR BRIDGE PLATE SCREWS OR OFF THE BRIDGE COMPLETELY . WHERE DO YOU GUYS COME FROM ?

Re: Dang I just bought a 24.75 scale Start neck by mistake..

I used to have a 24.75" scale strat conversion neck. I had it since the early 90s, way before warmoth started doing it.

Despite the 'common wisdom' you see posted around the web from people who have never actually owned or used one, it was not any less bright or twangy. Easier bends? Yeah, a touch easier.

I changed it out a couple years ago but only because I wanted to go from maple to mahogany, scale had nothing to do with it. As a side note, an all honduras mahogany strat STILL SOUNDS LIKE A STRAT! It does not sound "like a cross between a Gibson and a Fender" in any way, shape or form. Does it sound exactly like an ash/maple strat? No, but in the way that SSL flats don't sound exactly like Suhr singles. You'd never mistake either for a PAF.

If it was truly a conversion neck and not designed for a non-standard body, you might have found it interesting.

The only real difference I ever noticed between that guitar and my other strats was, if I got used to one or the other, the space between the upper frets was noticeably different.

if the neck is a 24.75" conversion neck, then it WILL intonate fine with a strat's bridge, without moving the saddles forward 3/4". That's the whole point of a CONVERSION neck.

Are you saying that neck woulda worked okay? Cause it was a real;ly nice neck at a great price.
Thats been well over a year ago. I don't know who "Gordon " is, but he must take a keen intereast in me, as he just dredged up two of my old long forgotten posts.

yeah, it would've worked fine. You'd just be playing on a 24.75" scale strat, instead of a 25.5" one.

the frets on a 24.75" conversion are laid out such that they are at the correct points given a 24.75" scale length from the strat bridge to the neck of the nut.
