David Bray and the '78

Here's famed amp modder / builder Dave Bray rocking a Seymour Duncan Custom Shop '78 model loaded into a Strat through one of his amps.

Here's the full tone chain: Strat w/'78, MXR Phase 90/MXR Flanger, Maestro Echoplex, Bray 50 head, Marshall 4-12 bottom w/ 25-watt greenbacks at 16 ohms.

Enjoy!

Re: David Bray and the '78

Been a fan of Brays amp mods/amps for several years now. I think he's one of the only "name" guys who seems to keep the Marshalls sufficiently "marshally" at least for my tastes. Alot of other mods and boutique high gain marshall type amps I've heard lose some of that marshall sparkle .One of these days when I'm out of a condo and can go back to using 2204 or 1987, I'll be sending it to David to work some magic.

He's got some clips on his site with a Les Paul w/59s too and the thing sounds monstrous.

Re: David Bray and the '78

David Bray makes a MONSTER amp!

I was happy to hear that he has started building from scratch in addition to modding.

The 78 really sounds nice with his amps.

He's also a killer player!

Re: David Bray and the '78

Way before the EVH recipe was out there, Dave gave me some tips on how to tweak my RI Plexi, this might have been 2002/03 or so. It was quite toneful help! Sweet clips BTW!

Trivia question, does anyone remember who coined the name '78?

Re: David Bray and the '78

That's awesome... dirtier, yet somehow smoother than the VH tones you typically hear people dial in. I like it. He's really got those pick slides down to a T. Killer stuff.
