I purchased a used DDJ pick up back between 1979 and 1980 from a friend who said it was the same type that Carlos Santana used ? It has a shielded 4 wire (red, white, black and light blue with a unsheathed stranded ground wire .base plate is stamped, small sticker with black DDJ .on the top of the pick up at one side there is a tiny square hole about 1/32 then the screw then a round hole of the same size. At the opposite side there is a round hole of the same size between the first two screws same positions top and bottom . could anyone give me any info, date how it should be wired and what position it should be mounted? had it wired in the treble position of my 68 SG Custom cant remember exactly how i configured the wires think i just tinkered till i liked the sound.
Happy 4TH JULY ALL

Re: ddj pick up

If you post pics we can guess the age but wont be able to tell you an exact year but maybe narrow it down to half a decade or so. Normally used in the bridge spot the wiring should be. White and red should be soldered together and and taped off, Black is hot and the green is ground.

Light blue?

I didn't know SD used a light blue wire (I'm not at all a SD historian though).

Re: ddj pick up

It's not uncommon for very old pickups to have had the leads modified at some point. I have an original "The JB Model" from the '70s that still used the Black, Green, Red, White and Bare wire configuration.

Hey, OP, any chance of a picture?

Re: ddj pick up

Yeah, at first that's what I assumed too (that the green wire had faded).

But I've seen the wire colors faded, and the green still looks pretty green to me. Certainly it's a possibility that the wire could have at some point been replaced with a blue one.
