Dean Dime import models? (ML and Razorback)

How are these guitars from a quality and playability standpoint? (I'm not talking about the USA models, I'm sure they're incredible) I've always liked the look of the Dimeslime and Far Beyond Driven MLs, and the Black Tooth Grin one in the trading section looks nice too. I really like the look of the 2-tone Razorback guitars, the white/black outline and Black/Yellow outline, along with the black/green bumblebee one. I have no floating floyd guitars and I'm interested in the short scale that the Deans offer.

What are your experiences? Are they good? Overpriced for what you get? Just looking for impressions.... (Don't worry about looks, etc. this will be a bedroom/ jamming with friends axe ;))

Re: Dean Dime import models? (ML and Razorback)

they have nice fat necks and play well, but id never buy one just cause the frets feel really tiny to me. im sure theyre not really that small, but im too used to extra jumbo

Re: Dean Dime import models? (ML and Razorback)

Also, what is the neck shape? Does it vary from model to model or is it pretty consistant? (I'm more of a C and D shape fan rather than a V.)

Re: Dean Dime import models? (ML and Razorback)

theyre more of a nice C shape id say. not baseball bat, but certainly not shredder. probably around strat neck thickness or a little more.

their higher end USA models often have a V shape neck, but theyre rarely on imports

Re: Dean Dime import models? (ML and Razorback)

Models based on the 79 series have C necks (79, Dime O Flame, FBD). The Razorbacks and others based on the CFH/DFH ML have V necks. The fret size seems inconsistent sometimes. My Blacktooth has good medium jumbos but I've played 79s that felt like they had almost no frets at all. FWIW, most of the newer import Dime stuff seems to have decent sized frets, with the exception of the new Stealth. The models they had at NAMM had teensy weensy frets.

Re: Dean Dime import models? (ML and Razorback)

My buddy got a Razorback off of MF. It's supposed to have some dings so was cheaper, but we couldn't find any. (He paid $379 I believe ) Actually I liked it alot.

The frets on it seemed big compared to my Hamer which has pretty big frets, Hamer wide ovals which are .100x.050. So possibly they were equilvalent to 6105's which are not quite that high, but pointier as its what they kind of felt like now that I think back.

The scale seemed longer than my Hamer although Dean says its the same. (24 3/4) The C neck was weird at first, felt like a hump, but it was quite comfortable to play, and good uper fret access due to the flying V shape. Overall it didn't seem like a bad axe, especially for metal/shred, although I didn't play it that long. (what else would you use a guitar that looks like that for anyway??!!)
