Dean guitars

How good do you consider Dean guitars and why? The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking to buy an explorer type guitar without it being as high priced as the Gibsons. Why are their prices so bloated?

Re: Dean guitars

Hey Emillio, I'm a big Dean fan.
I just bought my 12th one.

Here is my '06 Trans Green Korean made Dean Z(Explorer).

I love the Dean Z it balances well like a Gibber. While the import line is in the mid $400-$600's and even some a lil higher, the USA Deans are up there in price too like Gibson. Time Capsule USA Deans run 2G easy many times. I have had G.A.S. for a Honeycolored TCZ that is at a shop in Kansas for 3 years. $2400 OUCH!!! I saw it the first time in Feb. '04 at The Dean Open House tour. Stop by Dean's forum http://www.deanguitars.com/forum and ask this question too. I think you will like a Dean.

Re: Dean guitars

I have the dirt-cheap model, the ZX. Construction & feel is perfect, no flaws. The factory pickups were a bit weak to my ears, so I replaced the bridge pup with an SH-6 Distortion, & I couldn't be happier with it.

Re: Dean guitars

Can't go wrong with a Dean. I'd say Dean Guitars are the best bang for the buck as far as low to mid priced imports go, IMO.

If you want it, go for it.

Not much to add. Big +1 Dean Imports are the best value for $ I've seen/owned :bigthumb:

I think I've found a better fit personally with the Hamer Import Standard, but I think it's mostly cos of the neck..I like bigger necks and the Hamer is more "vintage"..the Dean necks are shallower and C shaped (though still quite a bit fatter than a typical Fender Modern C or Ibby or Jackson neck).

That was my big complaint, for a while. My hands used to hurt when I'd play my Dean, but that wasn't because of the guitar, it was because I was spending too much time on the computer. I just didn't notice how much damage it was doing to my hands until I'd play my guitar. Eventually, it hurt no matter what guitar I played. My Strat still feels way more comfy to me, though. I don't mind the slim neck, but what I really don't like is how wide the neck gets. I'm used to the narrow Fender/MusicMan style necks.

Re: Dean guitars

Yeah the neck is what threw me, a big difference compared to my strats. I don't think they are my cup of tea, although how cool it would be to strap on a ML. :)

Re: Dean guitars

Dean mid-line is awesome. How explorer do mean? Technically a caddy is about halfway there!

Played a nice Hamer recently too....

Re: Dean guitars

I like the PRS SE series as well...excellent builds usually...I just find they also usually have Schecteritis...i.e. dead as a doornail..

THOUGH...the day I got my hamer I played a KILLER SE singlecut with buckers....VERY Resonant, and built quite well. Played like butter...best SE I've experienced by far.

Don't get me wrong...I really like the Dean neck. I'll say this...I can play faster on the Dean neck...but I wear out quicker, and I've got to be on top of things (i.e. my technique). I'm more of a riffer, chugga chugga type rhythm guy, and my lead work (if you could call it that :laugh2: ) is more...hot-rod 70s pentatonic type stuff. The Hamer suits that style better, whereas I think the Dean neck is better for the super fast legato/running scales all over the neck type stuff. And the upper fret access on the ML is just unequaled except by a regular "V".

Re: Dean guitars

i love the soapbar models i've played. great feel and awesome necks. great tone. sorry if you've had bad experiences....

Re: Dean guitars

I have a Dean USA Hardtail, and it's a fantastic guitar. It plays more effortlessly than my Les Paul. I love fighting with my Lester, or the Hardtail would be my favorite...but it's close.

Re: Dean guitars

you cant go wrong with dean man i have the same explorer as BTMN in seethrough black Dean=rocking guitar

BUT DONT GET A DIMEBAG GUITAR!!!!

Re: Dean guitars

I owned a one of there Korean V's and I really liked it. My buddy had an LP copy of theres, (USA maybe) and that thing was awesome to play! If I wanted an LPish guitar I would get one of those.

Re: Dean guitars

I still love to hate BTMN. I think I've stated this in threads before. He needs a good punch in the throat cause his Deans are so amazing. I love to hate that guy.;):)
