Dean HardTails Revisited

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

ooops. sorry.

Where did I get 9 from? Were we talking about strings, I think?

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

This is sure quite a nice looking guitar. I love the circuitry with a volume & tone control for each pick up. I also love the body shape, the curves and arched-top and bevelling on the horns. Black guitars really rock!

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

Very nice. That's actually not mine. But, same thing.

Are the control knobs the same because you had originally gold speed knobs on them which also looked good. I guess the chrome knobs blend in better with the theme of the guitar.;)

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

No, original knobs should be chrome. And my fretboard is darker-looks (but not) like ebony.
It is one black guitar.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

I think the lip around the perimeter is designed to funnel as much beer to the outer edge of the guitar as quickly as possible. When you try this, and I know that you will, notice that the beer will pool up against the carved lip, allowing you to sip up a large portion of your spill.... thus reducing beer spill losses while keeping moisture away from the sensitive electronic parts.

After reading this, I laughed out loud! Yeah, I LOL'd!

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

Yeah, ole Jeffy's brilliant. He sold me the inspiring guitar, as seen below.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

USA Hardtail production started in late 2001/early 2002. However, I have never seen a 2001 serial number. I have a 2002 USA, [NODE="132"]Confused over Coil tap chioce[/NODE] made. 02 10132. That's how all the USA models are numbered.

Mine is 02 10207 Signed by Dean Z Prototype (color)

I can't recall exactly, but I think Korean models came out around 2005 or so. The one you have is certainly no older than an 08'/09' model. The specs on the Korean models are very similar to the USA models. Obviously the mahogany back and maple top are of different quality. The USA has an ebony fretboard and the Korean model has a rosewood fretboard; so you have rosewood. However, it was an exceptionally dark piece of wood to begin with. I condition all of my fretboards with gun oil, and I treated yours right before I shipped it. Gun oil helps the wood stay dark and protects it from drying better than anything I have found.

You've listed all the other specs...22 jumbo frets, 3x3 headstock, graphtec nut, TOM bridge and Dean designed stop tail. I'm pretty sure the hardware is chrome however. Dean pickups on the Korean models and I believe they are ceramic, but not terrible. The coolest part of the guitar is the molded heel joint. It makes the neck feel almost like a neck through.... even though it's set. The most comfortable necks I've found.

If I forgot anything or if you want to know something specific about it, just holler at me. The Korean Dean Hardtail's are one of the better guitars to come out of Korea. The quality is superb and they're excellent guitars.

57 is my favorite number BTW.

Serious necrothread LOL

...but I just bought a USA Hardtail, the certificate of authenticity is dated April of 02, but the serial number does in fact, start as 01. It's number 19, so I assume they numbered them when production started in 01, but none were finished until 02? Seems odd that it would take a professional builder 6 months to finish a guitar, but maybe they tried to build all of the first 100 at the same time?

Welcome to the forum!

Dean themselves are usually pretty responsive to questions like this. Send them an email or hit them up on social media. They are from my area, and I know a bunch of people there. Cool guys.
