I think the lip around the perimeter is designed to funnel as much beer to the outer edge of the guitar as quickly as possible. When you try this, and I know that you will, notice that the beer will pool up against the carved lip, allowing you to sip up a large portion of your spill.... thus reducing beer spill losses while keeping moisture away from the sensitive electronic parts.

As for the jumbo frets, I think you'll quickly learn to prefer them. It doesn't take as much pressure to fret notes and there is something about the way that jumbo frets feel when you slide up and down the neck. ******, there I go talking about sliding and that neck again.....

Good grief! I did not mean to plagarize or piss you off, and I'm not a troll. At that particular time, everyone was getting jumped on for anything possibly sexist. I was trying to help. And you know the last bit was ajoke. And yes, I know about S&G. Sorry I wen't about it wrong.

This should go without saying but just in case ... don't use the stuff in the link that I posted on your guitar. It was a joke.

Thank you for that factoid. Yer nuts! Ya'll just want me FUBAR. Just replied to a couple of posts a month old. . .

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

LMAO! I didn't open it until now.
Gee, then, I wonder how glycerin would work. . .

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

Dunlop makes some sort of fretboard oil. That's what I've always used. You can get it by itself or in a package deal with some of their other cleaning/conditioning products.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

Sorry for being late to this party. I literally use the "gun oil" out of a gun cleaning kit. Not the "bore oil" which also comes in the kit. I met a guy in Denver who had been working on and repairing guitars for 40 years. He swore by the stuff and gave me my first bottle. I've used it on all of my ebony and rosewood boards since. I haven't had any issues with it. It penetrates well, doesn't leave a residue and keeps the boards lubricated. I still have a couple of guitars from 01' or 02' that I've used it on all this time.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

Thanks! Think I'm going to use their wide, grippy crytonite picks. What thickness to you use? With the 9-46 slinkies on em (jeff), and the 1.4 pick I have, I can bend e to E.:11:

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

I use picks anywhere between .72 and .96, although I think I've settled on .88 Tortex picks as my favorite. That's just my personal choice. Most people (I think) tend to play heavier picks, in the 1.0 to 1.5 range). You should play whichever pick feels most comfortable to YOU, and helps YOU play better. Your choice of pick may change over the years too.

Well, I knew you were gonna say that! To each his own. It's drilled into mah brain. So many choices, so little money. That's why I need consults. I don't remember what they're made of, but I got a couple Dunlop Primetone 1.4. For my noob fingers, I like the great big textured thumb part, and got the weight coz I figured that would help me keep plectrum perpendicular to strings. Ya know-for my speed picking>lol. What's the diff betw shredding and speed picking?

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

1.4? That's like, a bass pick? Maybe you should try some of the textured Dunlops. I've been using .68's. not too thick, not too thin. The texturing makes them easy to hold on to.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

It got texturing. I had no idea what mm but I wanted a big thumb place. I am using textured Dunlops!! OK next batch I'll get some more reasonabe ones. The Mincer says he uses 9s. OK. .68-.90

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

I thought that the 1.4 referred to the thickness of the pick. Usually the thickness measurement is given in millimeters. 1.4 is very thick for a guitar pick, but not unheard of. I've heard of felt picks for jazz bass being 3mm.
I used to know someone who used paper thin picks for speed picking.
I like something that is thin enough to go fast, but still retains enough body for a tight palm muted chunk.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

I like the 1.0mm GraphTek brights, but mainly for bass.

Re: Dean HardTails Revisited

I use 1.1mm custom made Jazz III tortex made by InTune GP.
